VistaComm’s newest associate, Emily Robinson, is a recent graduate of Dakota State University with a degree in digital arts and design with a specialty in computer graphics. Emily’s fresh take on design will provide our clients with the edge their website needs to visually captivate an ever-expanding agricultural audience. Her pleasant personality makes Emily a joy to work with as one of her focuses will be client services. We are all excited to have Emily on board the VistaComm team.
What brought you to VistaComm?
As I was nearing graduation, I approached VistaComm with interests of starting a career in the web design field. And now I’m here!
What have you thought of your first week at VistaComm?
I have so much to learn! It’s interesting to see how all of the practices I learned during my time at Dakota State transfer into the profession. I can’t wait to put it all to work and learn new processes and practices along the way.
Where is your hometown?
When did you first realize you wanted to work in design?
During my high school years, I had the opportunity to work extensively on the yearbook. That was my first chance to work with Photoshop and other layout software. I loved working with the team and eventually managing the team as the editor. When I realized working for an extra five hours after school didn’t even bother me because I enjoyed it so much, I realized it’d be a great career choice.
What profession, other than your own, would you like to try?
It’s on my bucket list that I would like to be an activities director at an assisted living or other care facility someday. I have spent a lot of time visiting my grandparents in care facilities and enjoy visiting with all of the residents. Just spending five minutes with them is such a joy to their day!
On the other side of the spectrum, I might also consider teaching design at a university someday.
What’s one website or piece of software you could not live without?
Photoshop is a must-have on my Mac! It’s amazing what can all be done in that program. I use it for everything from editing and restoring photos to website mock-ups and more. It’s an extremely powerful program.
If you were a superhero, what would your powers be?
Well, Iron Man can do some pretty impressive things. I think any of those gifts would be pretty great, especially the ability to imagine and then to go on to develop all of those technological products… which—in this day and age—that’s quite the superpower! Otherwise, just flying would be quite convenient.
Who is your favorite fictional character?
In terms of cartoons, I love Scrat from Ice Age. He has so much personality for a creature who never says a word!
What are you most looking forward to as a member of the VistaComm team?
I look forward to working with clients to design the best solution for their company, and in the process, growing my knowledge in the web design field. It changes daily, and I love that my career allows me to stay current with the new standards. I work with a great team and can’t wait to get to know them more, too!
