Accounting Director

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Accounting Director effectively supervises agency financial, legal, personnel, and internal administrative matters. The Accounting Director is a key member of executive management who participates in agency planning and strategic discussions and provides advice to management on all financial decisions.

Responsible for the company’s financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, and various special analyses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Records all transactions and prepares all financial reports in a timely manner.
  • Prepares required sales tax returns.
  • Manages monthly closings. Controls the flow of data into the general ledger.
  • Prepares monthly company balance sheets and profit/loss statements and client profit and loss statements together with analytical review commentary.
  • Maintains adequate controls of receipts and disbursements.
  • Ensures that the agency’s cash flow is adequate to meet its commitments.
  • Prepares special reports and performs studies as directed by the CEO.
  • Protects corporate assets through sound accounting policies and procedures, including:
    • Provision for insurance coverage, as required; and
    • Protection of business assets and loss prevention through internal control and internal auditing.
  • Obtains monthly projection of revenue, prepares annual and monthly expense forecasts upon which management decisions can be based, such as:
    • Accuracy of year-end forecast; and
    • Appropriate budgets and budget directives.
  • Manages client billing and processes accounts receivable and cash receipts.
  • Understands the importance of real-time information
  • Processes accounts payable.
  • Works with third-party vendor for processing payroll.
  • Superior communication skills especially as it is the advertising industry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 3-5 years working in a related field
  • Client Profit & Loss and Employee Productivity & Recoverability analytical experience,
  • Job estimating and costing experience
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills
  • Strong technology skills
  • High level of accountability, discretion, confidentiality and integrity
  • Ability to think creatively, make decisions, and provide alternative solutions to solve problems
  • Working knowledge of the industry Project Management & Accounting package Workamajig would be helpful.

Senior Software/Web Developer

JOB TITLE: Senior Software/Web Developer
DEPARTMENT: Software Department
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Operations

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time/Exempt

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for intermediate level software development tasks, including programming, team collaboration, advanced database design functions, user interface design, and object oriented software design functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Establishes tasks and time tables for developing programs.
  • Creates test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Applies accepted programming standards and techniques to ensure efficient program logic and data manipulation.
  • Writes Microsoft.NET code.
  • Effectively develops ASP.NET administration and configuration.
  • Effectively reads and understands client-side JavaScript.
  • Helps our support team triage bugs and troubleshoots production issues.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • An interest in working with non-.NET technology stacks and languages, including PHP (LAMP)
  • Experience with WordPress development
  • Solid knowledge of HTML5/CSS3
  • Possesses fundamental knowledge of object orientated programming practices
  • Microsoft SQL Server experience preferred
  • Windows Azure experience preferred
  • .NET Framework (C#, Visual Basic)
  • Client and server programming technologies
  • Strong understanding of multi-tier software architectures
  • Knowledge of Software Development best practices

Freelance Ag Journalist (Iowa and Kansas)

JOB TITLE: Freelance Ag Journalist
DEPARTMENT: Production
REPORTS TO: Managing Editor

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts interviews, researches, and writes original prose materials for print and electronic publication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interviews, researches, writes copy for a portfolio of accounts.
  • Ensures copy deadlines and qualitative standards are met.  
  • Notifies client in advance of telephone or on-site interviews.
  • Takes photos to illustrate information collected.
  • Acts as liaison between Production team and client while on-site.
  • Communicates pertinent client information to VistaComm team.
  • Works with the graphics department to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Interviews and writes copy for VisionBuilder process.
  • Writes weekly Web Newsroom articles.
  • Copywriting of internal projects.
  • Represents VistaComm at industry events.

PROFESSIONAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS

  • Solid writing ability w/emphasis on feature writing
  • Strong photography skills with an emphasis on photo stories and essays
  • Ability to represent the company in a professional manner before clients, their management and employees, and the public
  • Publication design abilities are desirable
  • Ability to join and adapt to a well-established team of journalists
  • Ability to generate and develop story ideas
