Farming is our bread and butter at VistaComm. Most of us have a connection to agriculture, having either grown up on the farm or worked with farmers and ag businesses most of our professional lives. So when we learned about Farm Rescue and their mission, becoming a supporting organization wasn’t a difficult decision.
Farm Rescue is nonprofit organization that plants and harvests crops, free of charge, for farm families who have experienced a major illness, injury, or natural disaster. Operations are funded solely by donations, business sponsorships, and grants. Volunteers comprise the organization’s field workforce.
Farm Rescue’s motto is “helping family farmers in crisis,” and this organization has been there for 160 farm families as of the end of 2011.
The organization is the result of the vision of Bill Gross, who grew up on a farm in North Dakota and now pilots 747s for UPS. His goal is to keep families on the farm, and by so doing keep small rural American communities alive. When a medical crisis or natural disaster hits a family farm, it may mean the end of an era or the end of life as they know it—because farming isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life. Farm Rescue assistance can enable families to bridge that crisis so they have an opportunity to continue viable operations for future generations.
Soon, another production season will be upon us, and Farm Rescue’s fleet of trucks, tractors, or combines will be on the road again. We’re proud to be a part of their support team.
