When it comes to helping children, everyone wants to get in on the act… even the ducks.
Recently, Karen Fogas, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire, shared the mission and vision of the organization with all of us at VistaComm. It’s a tremendous, largely volunteer group doing some important work with area youth. Their programs focus on encouraging volunteerism, developing creativity, fostering healthy eating habits, and creating self-directed learners.
Their story was so compelling, in fact, that our Community Involvement Committee wanted to give the VistaComm staff the opportunity to show our support in a tangible way—and have some fun at the same time (because that’s how we’re wired). That’s where the ducks come in.
So on Thursday, 23 of us enjoyed pulled-pork sandwiches (with all the appropriate sides) in a nearby park. Each picnicker paid $10 to attend, with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Boys & Girls Clubs. Fortunately, we had a few buns left over, which provided quite a treat for the family of ducks who joined the party.
It was a good time for a good cause.
